Kennel Assistant Weekends

NMW  | Part Time  | Pride Veterinary Centre – Derby

Our Kennel Assistant Team are at the hub of the Hospital to help care for the poorly patients and to help the team to maintain wards to a high standard. They help with a variety of tasks including daily cleaning of the wards and maintaining stock levels.

The team

The Wards Team is friendly, supportive and passionate about providing the highest standard of care to our in-patients. Each day is different and we are always expanding our knowledge and learning new skills. Supporting our nursing colleagues, you will also interact with referral, first opinion vets, interns and residents.

The Hospital Ward Team care for both primary and referral patients from simple to complex cases so there is a variety of patient needs to accommodate.

The role

Due to one of our colleagues returning to education, we have a vacancy for a Weekend Kennel Assistant working in the Wards at Pride Veterinary Centre. Required days and hours are Saturday and Sunday from 8.30am to 5.30pm. This is a 16-hour weekly contract.

Most of us love animals of all shapes and sizes but we do require applicants to evidence their previous experience of working with the four-legged ones. We have been tasked to ensure the safety and comfort of all the animals in our care and we need to do that to the highest possible level, so having some similar involvement would be a true asset.

Caring for the animals on a daily basis is a key element of the role but I’m afraid it’s not all glamour as we need to tidy away all evidence to maintain the cleanliness of any areas the animals have been in contact with.

Being directly responsible for maintaining a high level of cleanliness within the ward environment, such as cleaning kennels, exercising patients, washing bowls, laundry, stock maintenance, animal handling, basic care including TPR (temperature, pulse and respiration checks), grooming, feeding and assisting the veterinary team, this is an active role.

This weekend kennel assistant would suit a confident person able to effectively prioritise and manage their own workload.
