It is the central flagship small animal hospital for The Scarsdale Veterinary Group, a multi species practice employing 330 staff across 12 sites. The referral hospital is a state of the art hospital with a wide range of equipment and a separate dedicated night team to ensure patient care 24/7. We work closely with the University of Nottingham accommodating student rotations through various disciplines.

The team

We are an enthusiastic neurology team who enjoy discussing cases and advancing in neurology, whether it be medical or surgical. We have weekly MRI rounds, journal club and book club to progress in our field. We have currently 4 neurology clinicians (1 diplomate, 3 residency-trained clinicians), 2 residents, 2 neurology nurses in addition to the open position of the neurology intern.

Your role

The successful candidate will ideally have either experience in first opinion practice or completed a rotating internship and wants more exposure to the neurology speciality. They will be required to assist the neurology clinicians in daily care of patients, consultations, diagnostic procedures and neurosurgeries. This includes some degree of nursing and administrative duties. The desire to pursue a residency is not a requirement, however, this internship programme is aimed at preparing the candidate for a residency.

The programme will provide training in both medical and surgical neurology. Upon completion of the internship programme, the successful neurology intern will have acquired skills/knowledge to include: Training in neurological examination and localisation, performing a neurology consult under the supervision of a neurologist, CSF collection and analysis, interpretation of MRI, CT and spinal radiography, participation in journal club and MRI rounds. Opportunity for observation of basic electrodiagnostic studies (EMG, NCV, BAER) will be available. Communication skills, decision-making and independent thought will also be emphasised.

In addition to the neurology specific training, our specialist interns are involved in covering a small amount of weekend duties to facilitate general care for all inpatients.
